Interested in becoming a Warcat?

If you are interested in joining the Warcats here is high level overview of the ages and programs offered to each group. All school grades are current school year or the grade of the upcoming school year.

Future Warcats (6th - 8th Grade):

Future Warcats are players that are typically still in Middle School and live in one of our designated school areas. Those areas are Westerville City Schools, Big Walnut Schools, Gahanna City Schools, and Reynoldsburg City Schools. As a Future Warcat a player can attend Future Warcat Night, Middle School Summer Camps, and if in 7th or 8th grade players can attend Bantam Bridge practices.

Here is some more information about the programs mentioned above and what is needed by each.

 

Future Warcat Night:

This event coincides with the Warcat Senior Night each year. This is a get together for all the Future Warcats and their parents to meet and ask questions from the Warcat Board and parents. It’s a great way to meet other families that will be Warcats and to get any questions about the Warcats answered. As mentioned, this also coincides with the Warcats Senior Night so you can see both JV and Varsity teams in action! There are also raffles, contests, silent auctions, and much more.

Requirements:

  • Registered on Warcats.org
  • Registered to attend the Future Warcat Night
  • Be 8th grade or younger
  • Live in a Warcat area
  • Timeframe: February
  • Cost: Free

 

Middle School Summer Camp:

Each year the Warcats offer a summer camp for middle school aged players. The camp is typically sometime in July. The Camp runs for one week and is ran by the Warcat coaches. It is a great way to get on the ice to learn some extra skills and to meet the Warcats coaching staff. This program is open to any Middle Schooler, just not Future Warcats!

Requirements:

  • Registered on Warcats.org
  • Registered to attend the Middle School Camp
  • Be 8th grade or younger
  • Timeframe: Mid-July

 

Bantam Bridge:

During the season the Warcats offer those players in 7th and 8th grade a chance to practice with the JV team once a week to see what a High School practice is like. This is a great way for the Bantam aged players to get more ice time and instruction from the Warcats staff and to get to know some more of the current Warcat players.

Requirements:

  • Registered on Warcats.org
  • Registered for the Bantam Bridge Program
  • Be 7th or 8th grade
  • Timeframe: November - January

 

SPECIAL 8tth GRADE NOTE:

If trying out for the Warcats the Summer of your 9th grade year, please note that the Warcats require each player attain a 1.75 GPA or higher on the players grading period. This is a requirement for anyone trying out for the Warcats so keep those grades up!

Current High School Age (9th – 12th Grade):

Players that live in one of our designated school areas of Westerville City Schools, Big Walnut Schools, Gahanna City Schools, and Reynoldsburg City Schools can sign up for our open general items of High School Summer Camp, Pre-Tryout Workouts and Tryouts.

High School Summer Camp:

Each year the Warcats offer a summer camp for High school aged players. The camp is typically sometime in July and there are two sessions available. There are two separate camps, each runs for one week and is ran by the Warcat coaches. It is a great way to get on the ice to learn some extra skills and to meet the Warcats coaching staff. This program is open to any High School player.

Requirements:

  • Registered on Warcats.org
  • Registered to attend the High School Camp session 1 or 2
  • Be 9th grade or older
  • Timeframe: Mid to Late-July

 

Pre-Tryout Workouts:

Before tryouts the Warcats run a two-night workout that goes over the drills that will be used in the tryouts. This is to show those trying out what drills will be used in tryouts so that a lot of extra time is not wasted during tryouts going over the drills. This program is not required for tryouts and is a separate registration from tryouts. This program is open to any High School player.

  • Registered on Warcats.org
  • Be 9th grade or older
  • Timeframe: August

 

Tryouts:

Each year the Warcats conduct tryouts to form their Varsity and Junior Varsity teams. All players who register for tryouts will attend all tryout sessions where they will be evaluated by the Warcats coaching staff, and independent evaluators on basic hockey skills. On the last day of camp, the Coaching staff will meet individually with each player and go over their tryout performance and then offer them a spot on one of the teams. The teams are based solely on the coaches’ evaluations and need for players.

This program is open to any High School player.
